Cheat: Bigger/Smaller Rims
It is possible to put bigger/smaller rims on cars, because the size in inches changes from car to car, e.g. the Honda civic level 3 rims are 19", the Mazda rx7 level 3 are 20", etc. Install the rims you like on the car you have. Then, trade your car in for a car that has rims of that level bigger or smaller than your car. Return to the rim customization screen and pick the same rims on that car. Although they already are installed, you must reinstall them for the game to register the size change. Clicking on next will simply ask you if you want to install the rims, although they already are, say yes. Then, go and trade your car back for what you had and it will keep the rim size you put on. On some cars, bigger rims will make them go through the fenders.

Hint: Easy Drag Races
Having a hard time completing a drag race? Strip your car of every performance upgrade except handling and brakes. Your opponents will automatically do the same thing. This makes it easier to make a perfect shift everytime. This will work in all races except the ones that say you have to have a fast car.
Submitted by Miataman
Hint: Flip Cars
First "draft" a car until your front bumper touches the opponent's rear bumper, then hit the Nitrous and your opponent's car will be flipped.

Hint: Points for 360 in Drift
When you are in drift mode you can get some extra points for doing doughnuts. Hold one direction and the handbrake and gas and let go of the handbrake after a second. You'll just sit there and do doughnuts. This won't get you massive points but it's something.

Star Trek Online Q&A - Overview, New Developer, Early Details

Massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) typically let you play some sort of elf who ventures out into some sort of colorful, persistent world, to repeatedly beat on some sort of rats in the hopes of looting a handful of some sort of treasure and eventually gaining some sort of experience level, so that you can seek out shinier treasures and beat up larger rats. One new game on the horizon will definitely deviate from this formula, all the way to space...the final frontier. That's right, the Star Trek universe created by TV producer Gene Roddenberry will be coming to life in a massively multiplayer game brought to you by Cryptic Entertainment, the studio that previously created the online game City of Heroes. However, Star Trek Online was originally in development at an entirely different studio, Perpetual Entertainment, which has since closed its doors. What does that mean for the newly-reannounced game? We checked in with Cryptic Studios' executive producer Craig Zinkievich for all the details.

GameSpot: To start off, please clear something up for us. What connection will Cryptic's Star Trek Online have to the game that was previously in development at Perpetual Entertainment?
Craig Zinkievich: We took some of the concept art--but the game design, assets and engine are 100% Cryptic. If given the rights to use the Star Trek universe, who could resist the opportunity to design the game from scratch!? We’ve been developing and refining our MMO engine and pipelines here for years and have shipped multiple games on it. Our Cryptic engine technology is so mature now that it’s allowed us to take our ideas and vision, and quickly get them up and running as a fully functional MMO.
GS: Next, give us some background on Star Trek Online. First off, in which era of Star Trek will the game take place? The original series? The Next Generation? Some other era?
CZ: The game takes place in the year 2409, roughly thirty years after the events of [the most recent motion picture] Star Trek: Nemesis. The galaxy has changed somewhat since then and faces additional challenges.
GS: Which characters and ships from the television series and movies will make special appearances in the game?
CZ: We’ll doubtlessly include references to well known and loved storylines, locations, and famous ships throughout the content within the game, but most of the characters have either retired or passed on. Star Trek Online is about letting players experience being a new member of the Star Trek universe--not re-living specific TV episodes or playing as specific captains.
GS: As captain of either a Federation or Klingon ship, what are some of the customization options you'll be able to use? Will advanced Borg technology like subspace warp drives come into play?
CZ: Cryptic is well known for delivering a high level customization. As you "rank up" in the military, you’ll gain access to larger and more-powerful classes of ships. As Captain, you’ll have the opportunity to outfit your ship with the specific items, systems, and weapons that you want to put there. There are all sorts of different types of photon torpedoes and phaser arrays in the technological mythology of the universe, and you’ll be able to put them on your ship. Change out and upgrade your nacelles, medical bays, sensor units...you name it. You’ll be able to configure your ship so it plays the way you want.
You’ll also be able to customize the look of your starship. Put your fleet’s emblem on it, change the colors, add decals, and, of course, specify your ship’s name and designation.
GS: Which classes of chips will players be able to create? Birds of Prey? Deep space exploration ships? Hybrid warships like the Defiant? Shuttlecraft?
CZ: All of the above. Players will have access to many different classes of starships that let them create the look and feel of many of the famous "ships of the line" but also many new and different ones.
GS: Exploration has always been a major focus in Star Trek. How will the game encourage players to boldly go where no man has gone before?
CZ: The game will be filled with hand-crafted Star Trek content that lets players play important parts in storylines active in the game universe. But exploration is key to Star Trek. Players will be able to pick uncharted star clusters of space and "seek out new life and new civilizations." There they’ll find content that will open up new resources, technologies, and even races with special abilities that they can recruit to their ship.
GS: One of the benefits of all that exploration is blowing up hostile new races that you encounter. Could you tell us about the combat system in the game?
CZ: There are two drastically different combat systems in Star Trek Online. The combat on away team missions will be fast paced "run and gun" combat. As for space, we don’t want to fall into the trap of trying to make Starship combat into a dogfighter. That’s not what Star Trek is about. In the shows and movies, space combat is about positioning, shifting power from weapons to shields, analyzing weaknesses, and having your crew come up with a plan at the last minute that can blast your enemy out of the sky! Space combat in Star Trek Online is a much more measured and tactical experience to reflect the spirit of the franchise.
GS: Will the game have any competitive player-versus-player (PvP) elements to go with the player-versus-environment (PvE) gameplay ? How will those work?
CZ: There will be PvP as well as competitive PvE elements. We’re keeping those plans under wraps right now.
GS: We understand that taking an away team to the surface of new planets will be an important part of the game. Will the away-team be made of other players, or will there be customizable away teams featuring computer-controlled characters...or something else entirely?
CZ: Star Trek is not just about the captain and ship--it’s about the crew too. One of the elements I’m really excited about is your "bridge crew." Throughout your career, you’ll gain access to a number of player-controlled-but-AI-driven characters to name, outfit, customize, and level up. Your bridge crew helps drive the storylines you’re on, gives your ship extra capabilities, and it goes on away missions with you.
When you’re teamed up with other players, you’ll definitely be going down to the surface along with them.
GS: How are you planning to implement combat on the surface using away teams? Will it be third-person, real-time combat like we've seen in Cryptic's other upcoming project, Champions Online?
CZ: Yes--Third person, real-time, action combat.
GS: We also understand that important Federation and Klingon landmarks will be included in the game. What role will locations like Star Fleet Academy, Star Fleet High Command, and Klingon High Command on Qo'noS play?
CZ: We plan on using many of the famous Trek locales as places where Episodes will take place, some as social areas, and some as focal points for some of the major storylines in the 25th century.
GS: Aside from technology, what are the major differences between playing as a Federation captain or Klingon captain? Will Federation captains be bound by the prime directive or other Star Fleet registrations?
CZ: The ships, races, abilities, and technologies are all different. The flavor and tenor of the content will also be drastically different--there’s a fundamentally different way the Klingon Empire would approach solving an outbreak of a dangerous disease from the way the Federation would!
GS: Finally, living up to the Star Trek name is a tremendous challenge, especially in gaming. How is the team making sure that Star Trek Online will do a good job of representing one of the most beloved franchises in science fiction history?
CZ: For one--we decided early on that Star Trek Online is not about trying to jam as many MMO mechanics together and skin it with a logo and uniform.

CZ: For one--we decided early on that Star Trek Online is not about trying to jam as many MMO mechanics together and skin it with a logo and uniform.

The game will let you go boldly go where...well, you know.
[Since we're working with] such a beloved franchise, we decided that the game must "feel like Star Trek." The team is constantly talking about why we love Star Trek and find it so exciting--and then we try to make sure that those elements come alive in the game. For example, when we got the license, the team broke out the DVDs and started to watch the 700+ hours of content again. We found many of the episodes and movies have a distinct pattern and feel to them. We’re trying to replicate that flow in the missions you’ll play in the game. Every prop, set, and ship design in the shows and movies has technical reasoning, history, and mythology behind it. We’re making sure that the things we develop do too.
What helps a whole lot is that the Star Trek universe has been so well defined, detailed, and is so vast in the amount of content that already exists. It’s pretty easy to tell if something "feels like Star Trek."

Hint: Easy Crazy Stunt Money
Get a bike and do a wheely. Keep the wheely going until you hit a lamp post or any other pole along the streets. If you crash at the correct angle, you should spin several times, thus gaining 40 to 100 dollars easily.

Hint: Getting the Apache Chopper
For those who want to fly the Apache but don't want to get all 100 hidden packeges, get a cop uniform from the Washington Beach Police Department. Use any chopper to fly into the army base. Go to the northwest corner to find the Apache. If you don't have the cop uniform, the soldiers will shoot you out of the sky.

Hint: Easy Money on Stunt Boat Challenge
On the first Umberto Robina mission, get in the boat and then press TRIANGLE to step away from the wheel. Attack Umberto's henchman, who's in the boat with you, until he's on the floor of the boat. Now every time you kick him, you'll receive the Good Citizen award of $50. Wait until your cash stops adding before kicking him again or it won't count. (You do not have to wait until the Good Citizen bonus message leaves the screen, however.)

Hint: Airport Shortcut
There's a shortcut between Little Havana and Escobar Airport in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. On the road beside the cafe, find an ally that goes towards the airport. If you drive down that alley, you can go through the hole in the fence. Now you don't have to drive around the airport. (This shortcut can be helpful when you need to save time during the paramedic missions.)

Glitch: Drive Through Wall at Stadium
While you are driving any car, go to the stadium. There are two helicopter pads on the north side of the building. There is a wall near them that runs east to west. You can drive through this wall.

Hint: Steal Bulletproof Sabre Turbo
When you are doing the mission, "The Driver," stay by the Malibu Club until you fail the mission. After you fail it, a Sabre Turbo will be parked by the Malibu. This car is bulletproof and locked, but you can still steal it. Take a car with good ramming power (preferably a Coach) and then push this bulletproof Sabre Turbo into your nearest garage (which should be the one at the Vercetti Estate).

Hint: Scarface Easter Egg
There's a Scarface easter egg in the form of a bloody bathroom and a chainsaw weapon. Go to the Pay N' Spray at Ocean beach, then go south and take the first left. On your left, you'll see a two story apartment with two sets of stairs on the second floor. Head up the stairs to the right and you'll see a black doorway. Check out the bathroom in apartment 3c and compare it to the movie.

Hint: Easier Flight From Justice (Cortez)
Once you reach the final mission for Cortez, it's a long mission of shooting boats and people, just do this: get 2 cars and park them in the pier next to the one to enter Cortez's missions, and put them in a way so that its practically impossible to get across through the pier (it's easier than it sounds), and go do the mission. When you start the mission a cutscene will come that shows a bunch of people trying to come through the pier you blocked, but they can't. They really would have if not done. Then you can relax on your boatride with Colonel Cortez. There may me a few people at the end but it makes life a whole lot easier since you saved yourself a lot of trouble of killing about fifty to seventy people. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hint: "Easter Egg" Easter Egg
Head to the 8-10 VCN Building (the news building) on the west island of Vice City. The news building is by the northern bridge entrance on the west island. You can enter the door of the news building and head up to the roof. Along with the news chopper, there's an easter egg you can get to. There's another buiding close by, but on an angle with the window closest to the edge of the heliport. Make a sprinting jump through the window and you should see an empty room with an easter egg in the middle.

Hint: Instant Health Power-up
This trick worked in GTA III as well. Drive up next to a hooker and wait. If you're driving a swank enough car, she'll start talking to you. Eventually, she'll get into the car. At this point, drive to a quiet spot and let the magic happen. The car will start rocking, and your "health" will grow from 100 to 125. Your pocketbook will take a hit though. This health-up only works until the next time you die.

Hint: Run Faster, Longer
To run fast for longer periods of time, tap X repeatedly instead of holding it down. You will run at the same speed as if you were holding the button, but you can do it for a much longer period of time.

Hint: Restore Health
Go to the hotel's save point. When the game asks you if you want to save, select a game and click it. When the "Overwrite?" message appears, select "No", and return to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

Hint: Kill Your Buddies and Steal Their Cash
Once you move into the Starfish Island mansion in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, you will always have a gaggle of goons hanging around your crib. You can milk them for money. And by milk I mean kill. Because they're your friends, and you're the boss, none of them will retaliate. Beat them senseless with any available weapon, then grab the cash they drop. It isn't a lot, but it is easy money.
Hint: See the Village People
Go into the Malibu Club and take a gander at the stage. There, you'll find a reasonable facsimile of the Village People.
Hint: Rob the Bank
After you've completed the Malibu mission "The Job", you can rob El Banco Corrupto Grande for some easy money. Walk in and turn right up the stairs. This will earn you a four star wanted level. Walk into the manager's office to get 1/3 of the cash. The rest is in the room with the elevator, on the right side. Then jump off the balcony and run out. To shake the cops, you can turn left to the nearby Pay N' Spray. It's not much, but it's easy cash.

Hint: UZI Ammo
Here's an ammo cheat for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Go to the Biker Bar (where you can do missions). Put your back to the front of it and run to your right and around the street corner. Then look to your left. You'll see a staircase leading up to a rooftop. There is Uzi 9mm ammo underneath it. There is also a shack that you can buy on the top of the roof. You can travel between the save point at the shack and the ammo as many times as you like, as right after you save, there is more ammo there again.

Computer and video game genres

Computer and video games are generally categorized into genres.
Due to a general lack of commonly agreed-upon genres or criteria for the definition of genres, classification of games are not always consistent or systematic and sometimes outright arbitrary between sources.
Action games are perhaps the most basic of gaming genres, and certainly one of the broadest.
Action-adventure games focus on exploration, and usually involve item gathering, simple puzzle solving, and combat.
Computer role-playing games (CRPGs or simply RPGs) often place the player in a fantasy or science fiction setting and drive the gameplay via a prominent storyline..
