Unlockable: Extra Music

In Act 4, enter the following codes (once per game) to unlock more iPod ™ music:
78925
13462
Upon completing the game once, you will have the option to go into the EXTRAS menu and input PASSWORDS for more items. Enter the following codes for more iPod ™ music:
thomas
george
theodore
abraham

Unlockable: Meryl's Desert Eagle (LB)

Upon completing the game once, you will have the option to go into the EXTRAS menu and input PASSWORDS for more items. Enter the following code for a weapon you cannot get anywhere else:
deskyhstyl

Hint: No More Camo

Shake the Sixaxis controller to return Snake's Octocamo to its neutral (black and blue) pigmentation.

Hint: Online Stealth Tips

When playing as Snake in the online sneaking mode, you should avoid lit areas so your shadow will not be as apparent. Also, in stages where characters emit frosty breath, have Snake play dead while prone to make Snake's breath disappear.

Hint: 100K Drebin Bonus

When entering the password into Otacon's terminal, input 14983. Although incorrect, Snake will (invisibly) gain 100K of Drebin points. Run through the game a few more times with this and the no kills and no alerts bonuses, and you should amass quite a sum of Drebin points.

Hint: Online Friendlessness

Trying to find a friend on Metal Gear Online but can't? That's because a player needs to log into their MGO account (and onto a server) before you to find them. Additionally, you "add" their MGO character name to your Friends List (for Metal Gear Online only), not any other Playstation Network game.

Hint: Under-handed-ness

Throw your grenades under-handed by lightly holding the L1 button (or your aim button, if you changed your controls), instead of holding it down completely.

Hint: Big Boss Tips (Act 3)

For players who are frustrated by the hardiness of Extreme difficulty, here're a few tips for Act 3:
Press Triangle during the bike chase to take cover behind Eva. She cannot die during the bike chase, but Snake sure can!

Hint: SOCOM Mk,23

Although you can enter a password to get the Heckler and Koch Mk.23 SOCOM pistol (handgun from the first Metal Gear Solid), you can easily pick one up from underneath the transport truck at Shadow Moses Island's Helipad.

Hint: Big Boss Emblem Shortcut

Shooting a barrel that kills PMCs does NOT count as a kill (just like MGS3).

Daily Mail slams 'most violent Wii game ever'

Sega's MadWorld comes in for a tabloid roasting and Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir PC screens
Veteran games company Sega has fallen under the scrutiny of the Daily Mail, as the newspaper reveals the company is developing a Wii title that it considers to be inappropriate for the consoles' audience.
The editorial hysterically proclaims that the forthcoming openworld crime caper MadWorld - not due for release until 2009 will 'horrify' parents and change the 'family friendly' nature of the machine, when released exclusively for Wii next year.
We're unsure how the newspaper played the game, as to our knowledge the title is still firmly under the development blanket at Sega HQ. But nevertheless, the 500 word article depicts the stylized black and white visuals of MadWorld - which looks more like the semi-animated movie Sin City than GTA IV, to be something akin to a video nasty. Conversely, many industry experts are of the opinion that MadWorld will be a breakthrough title for Nintendo's console - demonstrating a visual style and innovative narrative that's considered more at home on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Both Sega and Wii manufacturer Nintendo have been forced on the defensive by the unexpected media interest on a title that has yet to even be completed. Sean Ratcliffe, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc, said: 'MadWorld pushes the envelope with its extreme content but takes a step away from the dark and serious nature of most mature games.'
A spokesman from Nintendo, said: 'Wii appeals to a wide range of audiences from children and teenagers to adult and senior citizens, anyone from 5 - 95, as such there is a wide range of content for all ages and tastes available. Mad World will be suitably age rated through the appropriate legal channels and thus only available to an audience above the age rating it is given.'
With the Daily Mail touting MadWorld as the most violent game to ever grace the Wii, we can't help but wonder what the national newspaper will do when Rockstar's previously banned Manhunt 2 receives a scheduled Wii release - long before Sega's forthcoming game. The professional Daily Mail games journalists surely couldn't have been caught napping, could they?
Moving away from the chest beating of tabloid land and into the sublime RPG world of Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir. The expansion to the Dungeons and Dragons style title is all set for a Q4 release on the PC. We've got some brand new screens courtesy of Atari in our gallery to celebrate!

EA Facing Another Football Cover Change?

Ah, and by that I mean association football, not "throwball" as soccer enthusiasts call American football. Seems that one of the coverboys for FIFA 09, Maurice Edu (at right in the cover shot) of Major League Soccer's Toronto FC, is close to signing with Glasgow Rangers of the Scottish Premier League. That would make two football cover boys changing shirts in as many months for Electronic Arts.
Players changing teams in the European domestic leagues is common, and Edu is nowhere near as iconic a player for TFC as Favre was for the Packers. But if Edu does end up with Rangers, will EA update their cover art with a downloadable/printable replacement? Will we see guerrilla shoops a week after he changes teams? It's one thing to second-class the sport over in the U.S. How would it be taken in Europe? Or since it involves an MLS player, would anyone even care ...

GTA IV boss attacks tabloids!

It seems that the tabloids aren't going to get it all their own way when it comes to criticising the games industry. Regular readers may remember that yesterday we reported on the Daily Mail attacking Sega's forthcoming MadWorld (a game still in development and not due for release until 2009), as the most violent Wii game ever.
Well today, legendary Rockstar boss Sam Houser has quite happily gone on the record to state that criticism from publications such as the Daily Mail - what he associates to 'reactionary creeps with strange agendas' is not an insult, but an honour.
In an interview with trade journal Develop, the GTA IV creator was keen to explain just how run of the mill Rockstar as a company really is - far removed from the tabloid image of a group of evil geniuses at work.
Houser states: "Most of the people who hate us are people it is truly an honour to be hated by - reactionary creeps with strange agendas - and the Daily Mail. Most people who know about modern pop culture know about GTA and like or dislike it on its own merits."
He added: "I think we are both depressed at how boring we really are and how unexciting even the worse fabrications and exaggerations are when you read about them.
"None of it seems very rock and roll, so we find it a little sad, when there are probably better stories that could be written about both us and the industry/medium.
"No sharks, groupies or pounds of coke or anything fun at all. We read like angry dorks, which might be true, but is certainly not very exciting."
To balance all this talk of adult themed gaming we thought we'd include some brand new screens of a forthcoming title aimed squarely at the children's' market. Mary in the Woods is about a young girl discovering a Magic Forest and all the creatures that inhabit it. The title will be released exclusively on PC, towards Xmas. We're assured that there isn't a drive-by, gangland slaying or hit and run to be found.

Electronic Arts Plans Spore Movie

Spore the most anticipated game of the year, is most likely to become as huge as The Sims was or even bigger.

However, Electronic Arts and Maxis don't want their masterpiece to stay only in the game world, like The Sims did – they want to further expand the universe to other media, like television and cinema. So, most likely, two years from now, along with Spore Pets and IKEA Tribal Sticks, we'll be able to watch the soap opera Spore 90210: The Creature Creator and the hardcore movie Sporeminator.

All joking aside, the creator of the Spore video game, Will Wright, announced that EA planned to license television and movie rights for their title in order to boost sales. I don't really see the connection here, but they surely know better than me.

"With Spore, we're looking way outside the game space, such as TV, movies, etc. We're basically planting the seeds to spread Spore out to a much wider group of people than would ever play a computer game," Wright told Reuters in an interview in Singapore.

The Sims, the previous title from Maxis, sold about 100 million copies since its launch and there are huge possibilities for Spore to surpass these figures, since the marketing plan seems to be a bit smarter this time and piracy will be much lower thanks to the online component. All these combined with EA's plans to expand the already existing franchise to TV and theaters, could mean, in the end, that we'll be living in a true Spore era.

"We're going to be much more intelligent about harvesting other market opportunities for Spore than we were with The Sims, which as big as it was in the game space, pretty much remains in the game space," Wright concluded.
